We Are All Primates

Amelia and Emily & Babie

Rescued Primates

My daughter, Amelia, and I have been on a seventeen-year journey, to show a connection with animals, and what we have in common through photographic portraits.

Co-partnering with a maturing Amelia, these new interspecies portraits are with Emily and Babie, two rescued and injured primates, captively bred in the USA, who now live in a loving forever home with a wonderful caretaker.

Incorporating fashion into the portraits tells of the sameness of Amelia, Emily and Babie. The couture blurs the line between human and animal, where animals are part of our world and humans are part of theirs, co-exiting and interacting as full partners. Amelia, Emily and Babie trust each other and are comfortably connected.

About the Rescued Primates:

Emily, a black capped capuchin, 23-years-old, was rescued at two months old from an abusive home where she suffered a leg injury.

Babie, now a petite 13-years-old, survived a dog attack resulting in a butchered amputation of a leg, an arm and half a tail. Her leg was painfully amputated at the knee joint. After the rescue the caretaker tracked down the veterinarian who admitted to the butchered surgery. Babie also has a frozen middle finger. Her injuries do not impede Babies activities on her jungle gym, but she appears to have phantom limb syndrome.

Upon being rescued, Babie would not eat anything. Only when the caretaker was eating barbecued beans did she show an interest in eating. Both Emily and Babie now eat fresh vegetables, fruit and monkey chow daily. Emily especially loves watermelon, as seen in one photograph.

(It’s important for me to note that Amelia is connecting with real, live, primates No one is Photo-shopped into the images).
